A Hidden Gem in the Heart of London
FITZROVIA, LONDON, W1
Situated in the heart of fashionable Fitzrovia and a stone’s throw from London’s vibrant and famous West End, 8 Bourlet Close was previously a rundown office that had been identified as an unlisted building of merit in the East Marylebone Conservation Area. An OS map study of the area revealed that it had undergone various incarnations from two separate warehouse buildings in the late 19th century to a single property in the mid-20th century, when it was converted for commercial use.
The scheme retains and enhances the heritage fabric of the building, celebrating original features such as brick arches, thick masonry spine walls, cast iron columns, timber trusses and beams. The industrial aesthetic of the mews contributes to the character and appearance of the Conservation Area and has been preserved wherever possible to compliment new elements.
